Belle, WV- On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, just after 4:30 a.m., Sheriff’s Deputy C.D. Moyers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle at the intersection of Kanawha Blvd. E. (US Route 60) and Burning Springs Road in the Belle area of Kanawha County. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
It was determined by deputies that the male victim, had crossed the highway near the intersection at Burning Springs Road when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. The crash occurred in the right lane of eastbound traffic in a dark portion of the highway.
The pedestrian is suspected of being under the influence of drugs and inattentive at the time of the incident. The pedestrian is also suspected of being in violation of WV State Law, §17C-10-3 which outlines the procedure for a pedestrian crossing a highway.
The driver of the vehicle was not found to be in violation of any traffic laws that would have contributed to the crash and was not under the influence. The driver was not injured in the crash.
At this time, Sheriff Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit are working with the State Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the male pedestrian. Information regarding the pedestrian’s identity will be released at a later time.
