Vehicle Crashes into Dollar General
Sissonville, WV- On Monday, May 15, 2023, just before 2:30 p.m., Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputy, Sergeant A.J. Miller was dispatched to a crash at Dollar General, 7797 Sissonville Drive. Metro 911 Dispatchers were receiving reports that a vehicle had driven into the store and a customer was possibly trapped.
Sergeant Miller arrived on scene to find a 1995 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck had driven partially inside the store through the exterior wall. The truck, driven by a 74-year-old male from Sissonville, came through the southwest exterior wall after it was suggested the driver’s foot slipped from the brake pedal and hit the accelerator while attempting to park.
A 74-year-old female of Sissonville who was shopping inside the store at the time of the incident became trapped underneath shelving and fallen debris. The female was able to get to safety, but she was later transported to CAMC General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver was NOT found to be under the influence at the time of the crash, but the incident is being investigated as a case of careless/reckless driving. Dollar General is currently closed to the public with an undetermined time for reopening as damages are being assessed.
