UPDATE (May 30, 2023): Kanawha County Deputies received a “Tip” yesterday, just hours after posting a stolen 20 foot, blue Sport Craft fishing boat and trailer on our Facebook page (Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office | Facebook) and through our media correspondents.
The fishing boat and trailer is valued at approximately $20,000.00 and was stolen Saturday morning in the Chelyan area of Kanawha County. A citizen who had been following the story reportedly saw the boat at an address on Scenic River Road in Procious, West Virginia (Clay County) and quickly submitted the “tip”.
The investigating deputy, T.S. Dubiel was informed of the “tip”, and he contacted the Clay County West Virginia State Police Detachment. Sergeant Chapman of the West Virginia State Police was provided the case information and went to the scene on Scenic River Road where he located and recovered the stolen fishing boat and trailer.
Sergeant Chapman learned the boat had been brought to this location by family members of the victim. They found the stolen boat at the Clendenin Park and Ride where it had been abandoned and stripped of the blue fish scene vinyl wrap. Unable to contact the victim, they brought the boat home to Procious until the owner could be reached.
Deputies are currently still investigating the theft and looking for any additional information that may lead to identifying the suspect(s) who originally stole the boat. We would like to praise the individual who followed this story and submitted the “tip” that ultimately led to the recovery of the boat. Partnerships between law enforcement and our community is an invaluable asset and we thank the citizens of not only Kanawha but Clay County for your support!
