UPDATE – (June 21, 2023, 4:15 p.m.): Detectives with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section have determined the stabbing that occurred on Monday, June 19, 2023, was the result of a domestic violence incident. Deputies initially received conflicting information about the incident as well as the identity of the suspect. After multiple interviews and crime scene processing, we are now confident the stabbing did occur at the residence on Upper Midway Drive and was directly related to domestic violence. Due to the sensitivity surrounding the circumstances of this case, we cannot release any of the involved parties’ names as this is still an ongoing investigation. Once detectives have completed their investigation, all information will be sent to the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review and a determination will be made by them if criminal charges will be filed. In the event criminal charges are filed, we will release the name of the accused and the charges at that time.

Stabbing
(ORIGINAL STORY)
Dunbar, WV- On Monday, June 19, 2023, just after 3:00 p.m., Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to investigate a stabbing incident in the 600 block of Upper Midway Drive in Dunbar.
Multiple Kanawha County Deputies and Dunbar Police Officers arrived in the area where they found a male who was stabbed in the chest and back. The male was transported to CAMC General Hospital for treatment and currently is in stable condition.
Investigators with Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section responded to the scene with deputies and together they have determined that an altercation took place somewhere around residence that escalated to the victim being stabbed multiple times. Several witnesses have spoken to detectives; however, we have not been able to establish a definite description of the suspect based on their statements. Right now, we are confident this was an isolated incident and there are no current threats to the safety of the public, so we request that citizens return to their normal activities.
The scene at Upper Midway Drive is still very active as there will be deputies in the area a little longer for detectives process the scene and continue their investigation to gather information.
The victim in this case was a 37-year-old male from Charleston. The suspect has not been identified, but we will continued to update the public as information develops.
