On March 10, 2014 at approximately 6:21 a.m., a crash was reported to Metro 911. It occurred in the 4900 block of Big Tyler Road, in Cross Lanes, WV. Two vehicles were involved in the crash. Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the scene.
A Buick SUV attempted to pass an uninvolved vehicle in a no-passing zone while driving toward Dunbar. A Ford Explorer was being driven by a 16 year old driver toward Cross Lanes. The Buick struck the Ford in a head-on collision. The uninvolved vehicle’s driver witnessed the crash.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles until they were extricated by members of the Tyler Mountain Volunteer and Institute Volunteer Fire Departments. Both drivers were then transported to the hospital by Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority personnel with non-life threatening, but serious, injuries.
The driver of the Buick will likely face criminal charges in the matter. The crash is being investigated by Corporal J. A. Ratliff of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. Attached is a photo of the crash taken by Corporal Ratliff.
