On April 17, 2014 at approximately 3:00 p.m. a crash was reported to Metro 911 on U. S. Route 60 near the Putnam County line, west of Saint Albans, WV. First responders from the West Side Volunteer Fire Department, Saint Albans City Fire Department, and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority went to the scene to assist. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office’s Crash Reconstruction Team is now investigating the incident.
A 2000 Ford Ranger was traveling east on Route 60. It went off the road to the right, then left into incoming traffic, then right off the roadway into an embankment. It the overturned and came to rest in the roadway.
The female driver, Melinda Fox (42 years old) was trapped. She was later extricated by fire department personnel and transported by KCEAA ambulance to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Division for treatment. The male passenger was trapped in the wreckage. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was Timothy Fox (52 years old). He was the husband of the driver. They were both from Black Betsy in Putnam County.
While the event is still under investigation, the physical evidence at the scene indicated speed was a key contributing factor. The vehicle was owned by another family member.
