On the afternoon of July 10, 2014 a white Toyota Camry was reportedly driving erratically through the City of Charleston on I-64. The vehicle struck several cars in city limits. The vehicle went north on I-79. Metro 911 received reports indicating the vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 mph, and weaving in and out of traffic.
The vehicle caused three crashes outside of city limits, all of which are being worked by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. At the 7 mile-marker the vehicle itself crashed and rolled. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car. He was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Division where he was later pronounced dead.
Crash reconstruction experts from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the crashes north of Charleston. There were no injuries reported from the several crashes being worked by Sheriff’s Deputies. Reconstruction experts from Charleston Police Department are working those within Charleston.
The name of the involved driver is being withheld pending notification of his family.
