Halloween Patrols and Safety

Again this year Sheriff John Rutherford has authorized extra Halloween Patrols in an effort to keep Trick-or-Treaters and citizens safe.  The KCSO will have varying totals of 21-24 Deputies out on patrol from around 5:00p until needed on Wednesday, Thursday (Trick-or-Treat), Friday and Saturday nights.

These extra Deputies will be placed in areas historically prone to Halloween vandalism. They will be in both marked and un-marked vehicles as well as on foot with strict orders of “Zero Tolerance” for would-be vandals. Those found breaking the law will be arrested.

In addition to the normal and Halloween Patrols we will be using grant funding from the Governor’s Highway Safety Program specifically for Drunk Driving Prevention. Consequently there will be an additional 4-6 Deputies searching for impaired drivers. A DUI Checkpoint is slated for Saturday night. Additional details of time and location will be provided as required by law.

Young children will be out and about on or along the traveled road and we want to ensure their safety.

In the past ten years, vandalism and other mischievous acts have been kept to a minimum.

We urge parents to accompany and closely monitor their children especially during Trick-or-Treat times!!!!!!

Trick-or-Treaters should follow some of the following safety precautions to ensure their well-being:

1.       Visit only trusted houses and familiar areas. Specifically houses with lights on which is a signal to their participation in the event.

2.       Stay off of the traveled roadway when possible by using sidewalks in well lighted areas only.

3.       Wear reflective clothing.

4.       Carry a Flashlight or similar illuminating device like a “Glow Stick.”

5.       Parents should inspect all candy prior to consumption.
