The male victim of today’s shooting on Starling Drive in Rand is Christopher “Snacks” Carey, 27 years old of Rand, WV. He died at the scene. His body was taken by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of West Virginia for an autopsy.
The female victim of the shooting, who was found in the wrecked car also on Starling Drive, is Latisha Crawford, 28 of Rand, WV. Initial reports indicated she was shot in a leg. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment. She was shot in the right leg, right arm, and upper torso. Her current condition is unknown.
The crime scene examination is concluding. There is evidence multiple firearms were used. The crashed vehicle has been towed to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office where it will be further examined without being subject to inclement weather.
Although several people have been detained during searches throughout the morning, and one person arrested for fleeing, no one has yet been charged with a crime related to the shootings.
The person charged with fleeing is James Daugherty (20 years old of Charleston, WV). Mr. Daugherty was charged with fleeing, possession of a controlled substance, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
Mr. Daugherty was recently engaged in a fight with a Kanawha County Deputy Sheriff. On January 9, 2015 he was arrested for attempted armed robbery, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon without a license, and fleeing. The charges against Mr. Daugherty are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
