On June 12, 2015 an attempted robbery occurred at the United Bank in Big Chimney, WV. Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the location. Detectives soon assumed the investigation.
Throughout the evening tips were received from anonymous callers. Many were checked including one that took them to the 1000 block of New Hope Road near Pinch, WV.
At a residence there the suspect vehicle was located and the owner, Bobby Wolfe (33 years old of Elkview, WV), was arrested on a forgery warrant issued sometime earlier. Another person was also arrested on unrelated charges. During questioning Mr. Wolfe admitted he drove the suspect vehicle while he and Timothy Kerns (38 years old of Elkview, WV) stole items like clothes and gloves to use during the robbery.
Both have since been arrested and charged with attempted bank robbery, a felony. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is grateful to everyone who provided information that helped lead to these arrests.
As in all criminal matters the charges against Mr. Wolfe and Mr. Kerns are merely accusations. Each is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
