Around 10:00 p.m. on August 6, 2015 Metro 911 dispatched Deputy K. Daugherty of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office to a crash in the City of Saint Albans involving a city police cruiser.  A Saint Albans Police Officer was in the 1400 block of MacCorkle Avenue in that city assisting a motorist who stopped driving because of a medical issue.

The police officer parked his cruiser behind the other car, and activated the emergency lights of the cruiser, a 2013 Chevrolet Impala Police Interceptor.  While the officer was outside the cruiser helping the motorist the police car was struck in a rear-end collision by a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville.

The driver of the Bonneville, 80 year old Donald T. Hoffman, sustained minor injuries in the crash.  He was transported to Thomas Memorial Hospital where it was learned his blood sugar was dangerously low.  He had no recollection of the crash or the hour before the crash.

No others were injured in the crash, and no other vehicles were struck.  The Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority treated the patients and transported Mr. Hoffman.
Sgt. B. D. Humphreys
