On Monday, January 11, 2016, Metro 911 dispatched Corporal J.A. Ratliff of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office to a burglary complaint that occurred in the 5100 block of Waycross Drive in Cross Lanes. They said the victim of the burglary was at a neighbor’s house. He was handcuffed.
The victim said he was robbed by two white males who had their faces covered with masks. He was asleep in the house, but awoke to banging on his front door which was eventually forcefully opened.
He said the suspects rushed into his home claiming to be law enforcement and had, “fake Sheriff badges.” They forced him to the floor and handcuffed him. He quickly realized they were not really the police.
They left him alone for a moment, and he ran to a neighbor’s house to have them call 911. He said they were searching for drugs, but none were in the house. They stole the victim’s phone.
Detectives with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office processed the crime scene for evidence and conducted interviews. Last weekend they arrested Glenn Edward Shafer (30 of Saint Albans) and Donald Scott Bannister, II (34 of Saint Albans) for the robbery.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office takes all crimes seriously, especially violent crimes like this. The Deputy Sheriffs and detectives who work these cases tirelessly investigate leads, often resulting in arrests.
As is always the case in criminal matters, the charges against Mr. Shafer and Mr. Bannister are merely accusations. Each is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Attached is a mug shot of Mr. Bannsiter taken during his arrest.
