On Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at around 4:45 p.m. a 911 call was placed from an address on George’s Creek Drive. The caller said his son, Zachary Steele (21 years old of George’s Creek/Charleston) had punched him in the face several times before fleeing the house. Kanawha County Deputy Sheriffs responded.
He fled in his parents’ vehicle. Zachary Steele called his father and told him he could find the car in pieces on Dry Branch Drive. He also threatened to harm himself. Deputies located the vehicle near Gap View Drive. They later located Mr. Steele on Campbell’s Creek near Route 60. He fled several times on foot before taking a knife and holding it to his neck. He threatened to cut a police K9 if one was used to help apprehend him, as he also made threats to harm himself.
A supervising Deputy Sheriff used a less-lethal weapon, firing a bean-bag from a shotgun at Mr. Steele. Mr. Steele was then taken into custody without further harm to himself or others.
Zachary Steele was arrested, charged with domestic battery and fleeing on foot, both misdemeanors. As is always the case in criminal matters, the charges against him are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Attached is a mug shot taken during his arrest.
