On June 25, 2017, just before noon, a 911 call to Metro 911 prompted a response by Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies for a stabbing at the Speedway at 5296 Big Tyler Road, Cross Lanes, WV. Two men were in a brief confrontation that ended in one of them being stabbed.
The victim saw a person banned from the store loitering and behaving suspiciously. He followed him around the corner of the building and the man confronted him, then stabbed him in the neck causing a cut about two inches wide and one inch deep. The victim was taken to an area hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. He was still talking to first responders while in the ambulance.
Surveillance footage and witness statements helped Deputy Cumberledge identify the suspect as Dustin Fields, 24 years old of Cross Lanes, WV. An agency K9 helped track Mr. Fields from the gas station to a nearby apartment complex where he was located and arrested.
Mr. Fields was charged with wanton endangerment, a felony. He was taken to Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters for booking. As is always the case in criminal matters, the charge against Mr. Fields is merely an accusation. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
