On Thanksgiving morning at 7:30 a.m. Deputy C. A. Boner of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office heard Metro 911 describe a vehicle discovered stolen from South Charleston, a 2016 Buick Encore. Almost two hours later he spotted the vehicle in the 400 block of Hampshire Drive in Jefferson.
Seated inside the vehicle was Roosevelt Holton (35 years old of Saint Albans). John William Dailey (32 of Saint Albans) was standing next to the car. Mr. Dailey ran inside a residence as Deputy Boner exited his car. Several Deputy Sheriffs and police officers from South Charleston Police Department soon arrived to assist Deputy Boner. Both men were detained and Mr. Holton was arrested by South Charleston Police Officers. Deputies on scene checked several other vehicles in the area in national databases for stolen vehicles, one of which was a GMC Sonoma. None were reported stolen at the time.
During his arrest Mr. Holton admitted to taking the GMC Sonoma to steal the Buick Encore. Several hours later Metro 911 dispatchers told Deputy Boner the GMC Sonoma had just been entered into the national database. It was reported stolen in Jackson County.
Deputies returned to the scene and knocked on the doors of the residence into which Mr. Dailey had fled earlier. They were trying to find someone who could give them back the keys to the Sonoma. A man tried leaving the rear door when Deputy Boner spotted him. Deputy Boner asked his name and the man said he was Anthony Avery. Others there identified him as Anthony Muenlhausen (51 of Saint Albans). He told the Deputies he lied about his name because he had active warrants.
Deputy Boner arrested him for obstructing an investigation, then also found a felony capias from Putnam County, a felony warrant for possession with intent to deliver through Kanawha County, and a misdemeanor battery warrant in Kanawha County for Mr. Muenlhausen. He was later taken to South Central Regional Jail to await arraignment.
Deputy Boner will also seek a warrant for Mr. Holton for transferring and receiving a stolen vehicle. Deputies in Jackson County are expected to seek a warrant for him for grand larceny of the vehicle. Mr. Holton was released from South Central Regional Jail on November 22, 2017 for the same offense.
As is always the case in criminal matters, the charges against Mr. Holton and Mr. Muenlhausen are merely accusations. Each is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
