On November 30, 2017, Kanawha County Deputies received a complaint regarding inappropriate messages being exchanged over a cell phone.    The inappropriate messages were pertaining to sexually abusing children.   A suspect participating in the messages was identified as Michael Ray Moles Jr.; a 41 year old male from the Campbells Creek area of Kanawha County.

As a result of this complaint, Detectives of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office interviewed potential victims and witnesses and were able to identify a 6 year old child victim.   Criminal charges were then obtained on Mr. Moles, charging him with 1 count of sexual assault of a minor, 1 count of sexual abuse of a minor, and 1 count of sexual abuse of a minor by a custodian/guardian.

On December 11, 2017, Michael Ray Moles Jr. was arrested by members of the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation at his place of employment in Campbells Creek.   Mr. Moles was arraigned before a Kanawha County Magistrate and was unable to post the $50,000.00 cash only bond.   Mr. Moles was transported to the South Central Regional Jail.

Attached is Mr. Moles booking photograph.  As is always the case in criminal matters, the charges against Mr. Moles are merely an accusation.  He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

This investigation is continuing and further charges may follow.  Should anyone have any information pertaining to this case they are asked to contact Detective S.D. Ferrell at 304-357-0089, or submit a tip on our website at www.kanawhasheriff.us or through email at tips@kanawhasheriff.us.
