On November 1, 2013 at approximately 10:30 a.m. Deputy B. K. Howery responded to a head-on crash on Pinch Road North near the intersection with Waters Edge Drive. A vehicle driven by Charlene Copen (54 years old of Blacklick, OH) veered off the roadway, then across its proper lane and into the opposite lane where it struck another vehicle in an angled head-on collision. The other vehicle was driven by Lena Parsons (44 years old of Amma, WV).
Both drivers sustained injuries and were transported to Charleston Area Medical Center: General Division for treatment. Mrs. Parsons was initially trapped in her damaged vehicle, a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire. Local fire department members were able to extricate her from the vehicle. Mrs. Copen was reportedly ejected through the front passenger window of her 1993 Ford Ranger pickup truck.
Deputy Howery went to the hospital to take statements from the injured drivers. The investigation is continuing. Deputy Howery hopes to identify all contributing factors to the crash before making a decision about what, if any, criminal charges to file.
