Shortly after 7:00 a.m. a 911 call was placed reporting a disturbance on Sparrow Lane in the Elkview area of Kanawha County.  The caller, Richard Lipscomb (78 years old of Elkview), described a fight with his grandson.  A disturbance could be heard on the phone call with dispatchers.  During the call the caller shot his 19 year old grandson, Griffin Lipscomb, killing him.

Both lived at the house where the shooting occurred.  Others were present, also.  The shooter described himself as acting in self-defense.

The shooter and others were interviewed this morning.  Evidence has been collected and will need further examination.  The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the State of West Virginia is assisting with the investigation and will conduct an autopsy.

When the investigation concludes the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney of Kanawha County will review it and make decisions regarding criminal charges.  No one is in custody or facing charges in this matter at this time.
