The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office will be resuming Operation GPA (Graduate – Prom Alive) this month as a new school year begins. Our school safety initiative, funded by the Kanawha County Commission, assigns Deputy Sheriffs to conduct random patrols of schools throughout Kanawha County during the school-day.
Deputies work with principals, teachers, and staff to address any security concerns and prevent crimes at and around schools. The program also includes special details before, during, and after graduation and prom events for county high schools.
This program supplements full-time Deputy Sheriffs assigned as school resource officers in middle and high schools in Kanawha County.
On August 9, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. we will hold a press conference at Malden Elementary School. Please come hear more about our program as it resumes. We will have some planned remarks at the start, then break-out interviews with those responsible for the program before concluding.
The first week of school will include an aggressive presence in school zones to remind drivers of the changing traffic patterns after a summer of no school.
