Early Saturday morning Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a reported shooting on Queens Court in Cross Lanes. A 31 year old man was shot in the leg outside a residence there by another man standing at a vehicle. The shooter fled after the shooting.
Detectives began an investigation and have since arrested William Landon, VI (36 of Dunbar, WV) for the shooting.
Mr. Landon was at the home with his girlfriend earlier in the night and got into a fight with Bryan Hazel. Mr. Landon is alleged to have pulled out a knife during the fight. Mr. Hazel and another man subdued Mr. Landon and got the knife from him. Mr. Landon then left in a silver Cadillac.
Approximately 30 minutes later he returned, exited the car, and fired multiple shots from a handgun across the vehicle toward Mr. Hazel and another man who were standing in front of the residence. One round struck Mr. Hazel in the leg.
Mr. Hazel was taken to an area hospital for treatment to his injuries.
Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies located and detained Mr. Landon later in the morning. He is now charged with malicious wounding, wanton endangerment, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He was convicted in 2004 of the felonies of wanton endangerment and malicious wounding.
As is always the case in criminal matters, the charges against Mr. Landon are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
