Larry George Hambrick (45 years old of Charleston, WV) was arrested overnight following a pursuit.  A vehicle driven by Mr. Hambrick was observed with a defective muffler.  When a Deputy attempted a traffic stop on Piedmont Road near Charleston the vehicle sped away.
The events during the pursuit included nearly striking another cruiser head-on, driving the wrong way on I-77 (south in the northbound lanes), and destroying two parking lot gates at CAMC Memorial Hospital.  Later in the pursuit the vehicle crossed the Kanawha River going the wrong direction on the 36th Street Bridge, eventually crashing on MacCorkle Avenue in Marmet, WV.
Mr. Hambrick showed signs of intoxication and admitted to snorting methamphetamine approximately two hours earlier.  His driver’s license was suspended for (among other reasons) 45 unpaid citations.
Mr. Hambrick is charged with two felonies:  fleeing while driving under the influence, and fleeing with reckless indifference.  He is also charged with misdemeanors of driving under the influence, destruction of property, driving with no insurance, driving with a suspended license, and improper registration.
Following the crash Mr. Hambrick was taken to an area hospital for examination, then to South Central Regional Jail where he awaits arraignment on these charges.  As is always the case in criminal matters, the charges against Mr. Hambrick are merely accusations.  He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
