Driver without Headlights leads Deputies to Stolen Vehicle, DUI, Child Neglect, and more.
Saint Albans, WV- On Thursday, May 11, 2023, around 2:35 a.m., Lieutenant D.J. Roush was patrolling the Maccorkle Avenue area in Saint Albans when he observed a silver Mitsubishi Outlander traveling east without any lights on during nighttime hours. A Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) inquiry showed the Mitsubishi had been reported stolen.
Lt. Roush conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle to find it was occupied by a male driver, identified as 25-year-old, Brian Oglesbee of Alum Creek. The vehicle was also occupied by a female passenger and an infant child. The female passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and holding the child in her arms unrestrained. Oglesbee identified the child as his 5-month-old daughter.
Corporal S.M. Adams was assisting with the investigation when she observed Oglesbee to be displaying multiple signs of impairment, which he later admitted to smoking marijuana and methamphetamine prior to operating the vehicle. He was found to be in possession of multiple controlled substances and paraphernalia. A DUI investigation was conducted and Oglesbee was found to be under the influence and too impaired to operate a motor vehicle safely. Oglesbee was also operating a vehicle without possessing a valid driver’s license.
Oglesbee was placed under arrest for driving with no headlights, driving with no valid operators, two counts of simple possession, driving under the influence with a minor, receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, and child neglect creating substantial risk of injury. Oglesbee is currently being held at South Central Regional Jail awaiting arraignment by a Kanawha County Magistrate. Oglesbee is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
