Kanawha County Deputy Sheriff graduates from FBI National Academy

CHARLESTON, WV – On June 16, 2023, Chief Deputy Joey Crawford announced that Sergeant Adam Crawford graduated as a member of the 286th session of the FBI National Academy. The graduation took place at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on June 8th, 2023.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy offers ten weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Candidates must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to even be considered for selection to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and often return to their respective agencies to serve in executive-level positions. Nationally, fewer than one percent of police officers will be invited to attend this course.

The 286th session consisted of two hundred and thirty-eight law enforcement officers from 47 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 25 countries, five military organizations, and six federal civilian organizations.

Sergeant Crawford currently serves as a detective in the Criminal Investigative Section.  He has served with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office for over fifteen years and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.  During his time at the FBI Academy, Sergeant Crawford elected to complete advanced/graduate-level college courses earning credits from the University of Virginia.

Sergeant Crawford is the 13th Deputy Sheriff from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office to have attended the FBI National Academy.  Sergeant Crawford joins Sheriff M. Y Rutherford (Session #125), Chief Deputy J. H. Crawford (Session #192), Captain J. D. Meadows (Session #269), Captain E. S. Drennan (Session #275), Lt. J. H. Thaxton (Session #277), Lt. S. D. Snuffer (Session #250), and Lt. B. K. Carper (Session #261) as active members of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office who have graduated from this prestigious Academy.

About the FBI National Academy

FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits many of the courses offered. A total of 54,366 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
