May 28, 2014: Shooting Near Clendenin

On May 28, 2014, shortly after 2:00 p.m. a shooting occurred on River Haven Road, north of Clendenin, in Kanawha County, WV. Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office responded with medics from the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority.

An altercation took place at the residence of Charles “Sam” Myers (49 years old of Clendenin). Mr. Myers shot Allen Ray Dingess (34 years old of Winfield) with a 12 gauge shotgun.

Mr. Dingess fled the area with others. They drove him to the Clendenin interchange with I-79 where he was met by an ambulance and KCSO Deputies.

Mr. Dingess was treated on the roadside, then declined transport by ambulance, electing to go to CAMC General Division in a personal vehicle.

Mr. Myers was arrested and is being charged with malicious wounding, a felony carrying a possible penalty of 2-10 years, if convicted. He is likely to be arraigned at approximately 6:30 p.m.

As with all criminal matters, the charge against Mr. Myers is merely an accusation. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Another email containing a copy of the criminal complaint and a mug shot may be sent to journalists later tonight.
