On June 3, 2014 a crash occurred at approximately 12:54 p.m. near Witcher Creek, Belle, WV on U.S. Route 60.  Metro 911 received an emergency call from Mary Ann Pritt (51 years old of Belle, WV).  The call was placed four minutes prior to the crash.  She said she was in a vehicle with her husband, Ronald Gene Pritt (46 of Belle, WV).  She said her husband was driving erratically and traveling about 100 mph.  She said he was not listening to her, and acted as though he could not hear her.  She said they had just left a Veteran’s Affairs clinic and was, “acting crazy,” according to the 911 call.

Officers with the Belle Police Department and Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office started toward the vehicle.  Near Witcher Creek Mr. Pritt lost control of his vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Impala, while he traveled east.  He struck another east-bound car in a rear-end collision.  That vehicle veered toward the west-bound traffic and side-swiped a west-bound car.  Mr. Pritt’s vehicle rolled onto railroad tracks.  A parked vehicle nearby was damaged by debris.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Pritt were transported to Charleston Area Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  Another involved driver was also transported.  The third driver was examined at the scene by Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority personnel, but refused transport to a hospital.

Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office crash reconstruction experts downloaded computer information from Mr. Pritt’s vehicle.  At ½ second prior to impact his vehicle’s speed was 86 mph.  The roadway was fully reopened at 4:15 p.m.
