The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is again leading the way toward school safety. Protecting our children is paramount and school zone patrols are just one of the many programs throughout the year aimed keeping kids safe. We are again teaming with the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority in a combined effort to inform motorists who may be unaware kids are returning to the classrooms.
Deputies will be heavily patrolling School Zones and many roads in Kanawha County’s unincorporated areas for the first several days of school using both marked and unmarked patrol cars.
The Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority will also be in the school zones with their red lights flashing while Deputies will have blue lights illuminated providing awareness.
We will be practicing ZERO TOLERANCE to those who make a conscious choice to travel at excessive speed and therefore disregard the safety of our school children. Our Primary Goal is not to issue speeding citations but to keep our children safe!
We urge motorists to please exercise extreme vigilance and due care while driving on all roads, especially early during morning and late afternoon when students are present near the roadways waiting for their bus.
I have also attached the School Bell Schedule (Microsoft Excel) and a list of Deputies who will be assigned to each. We encourage media to contact me and gain live footage early Monday morning and see firsthand the need for our patrols.
