Just after 9:30pm last night Deputy T.A. Fouch was dispatched to the South Charleston area after Patrolman J.A. Bailes stopped a car for speeding in on MacCorkle Avenue. Patrolman Bailed discovered a riddled car and a driver covered in blood. The driver, George L. McColgan III age 30 of South Charleston told police he was lured to an Oliver Street, St. Albans home by an acquaintance where he was battered by several people. To escape the assault he jumped into his car to leave as the attackers threw rocks and cinderblocks at his car shattering window glass. McColgan also reported one of the attackers fired a pistol at his car. He was not struck by any of the bullets.
McColgan sustained some fairly severe injuries, however he denied medical treatment from Kanawha County Emergency Medics who responded to exam him.
The investigation is continuing by the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation, by Captain D. Scurlock and Cpl. M.P. Knapp.
