On June 22, 2015 Detectives with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office arrested Daniel A. Ramsey, 21 years old of Charleston, WV, for child abuse. The charge arose from an investigation that began in the early morning hours Sunday.
The mother of a six month old child took her baby to Charleston Area Medical Center’s Women and Children’s Hospital after finding significant bruises to the child’s buttocks and upper thighs.
During the investigation it was learned Mr. Ramsey was dating the child’s mother, and babysitting alone the previous evening while the child’s mother worked. He tried to feed the baby but the baby was crying. Mr. Ramsey said he became angry and placed the child on a living room sofa and struck him about five times with an open hand on his buttocks causing redness which later developed to significant bruising. He said he changed the diaper of the six-month old child before his mother returned so she would not see the injuries.
Mr. Ramsey was charged with child abuse resulting in injuries, a felony. He was arrested on June 22, 2015. After arraignment he was taken to South Central Regional Jail to be held in lieu of bond. Attached is a mug shot taken during his arrest.
As is always the case in criminal matters, the charge against Mr. Ramsey is merely an accusation. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
