On July 5, 2015, shortly after 10:00 p.m. Metro 911 began receiving calls of a house fire and disturbance on Galena Road near Walker Drive in the Sissonville area.  The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched with members of the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department.

Callers indicated Nathan Oxley, 35 years old of Sissonville, was fighting with his girlfriend and others.  He was armed with a large knife.  At least some people involved in the disturbance were able to escape and call for help.

When Deputy Sheriffs arrived on scene they began searching wooded areas for Mr. Oxley.  Around 12:35 a.m. they located and detained him.

Workers with local gas and power companies responded, as did the WV State Fire Marshal’s Office and Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority.  The WV State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the investigation.  Their investigators ruled the fire to be the result of arson.

Mr. Oxley was charged with first degree arson.  He was taken to South Central Regional Jail to await an arraignment.  Attached is a mug shot taken during his arrest overnight.

As is always the case in criminal matters, the charge against Mr. Oxley is merely an accusation.  He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
