On November 25, 2015 at 1:01 a.m. an officer with the Nitro Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a Pontiac sedan with one headlight operating. The vehicle did not stop for the officer and a short pursuit occurred. The pursuit ended when the car stopped at town houses on Easter Road near 31st Street in Nitro.
During the officer’s interaction with the driver of the sedan the driver began driving again, then attempted to hit the officer with the sedan. The officer fired his pistol into the driver striking him several times.
The car came to a stop at the intersection of Easter and 31st. An adult female passenger was in the vehicle but was not injured in the incident. The officer was not injured in the incident. No one else was involved.
The driver, 28 year old Mickey Davis of South Charleston, was taken to CAMC General Division Hospital for treatment. He is currently in the ICU.
The female passenger and Nitro Police Officer are being interviewed. Detectives with the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation are also examining the crime scene and interviewing potential witnesses.
The Nitro Police Department asked the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office to lead the investigation to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. The Office of the Prosecutor of Kanawha County is also with detectives. Both of these steps are standard practices for such incidents.
