On July 24, 2016 Metro Communications received word from CSX dispatchers of an emergency. An engineer operating a west-bound train reported his train struck a pedestrian crossing railroad tracks near Avesta Drive in Jefferson, WV.
Corporal C. M. Morgan of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office responded with other Deputy Sheriffs. As they began an investigation medics with the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority treated the victim, then transported her to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Division for care.
The pedestrian was Michelle Williams, 38 years old of South Charleston, WV. As of this morning her condition was described as critical.
During the investigation the Deputies validated the train’s horn was working properly, and there were no obvious mechanical or engineer faults. The investigation is continuing with cooperation from CSX.
