In the early morning hours an attempted traffic stop by a Deputy Sheriff of a vehicle on Charleston’s West Side turned into a pursuit.  The vehicle’s registration did not match the vehicle, which led to the attempted traffic stop at Stockton Street and 4th Avenue.
The driver led Deputies on a pursuit through Sissonville, back toward town, through Jefferson on Route 60.  There stop sticks were used to damage two tires on the car.  But the driver continued to flee through Putnam County where his vehicle struck a Hurricane Police cruiser.
In Cabell County the vehicle was finally stopped and the driver arrested.  He is being charged with fleeing with reckless indifference, driving on suspended operators license, no insurance, and improper registration.  He may soon be facing additional charges in Putnam County related to the pursuit and crash.
Arrested was the driver, Robert Lee Goff Jr., 33 years old of Charleston, WV.

Attached is a picture taken during booking procedures.  As is always the case in criminal matters the charges against Mr. Goff are merely accusations.  He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
