This morning around 6:30 a.m. a man was struck by a pickup truck while walking on Childress Road near Alum Creek, WV. The striking vehicle remained on scene and the driver called 911 immediately.
Nurses from other vehicles stopped to assist with CPR, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead by medics upon their arrival. The deceased was Harvey Slonaker, II, 53 years old of Alum Creek, WV.
The crash occurred on an incline, just outside a curve in the roadway. It occurred before dawn and fog may have also been a contributing factor. The driver of the striking vehicle is cooperating with the investigation.
Crash Reconstruction Experts responded to assist with the investigation. They will attempt to understand how and why the crash occurred.
