On November 11, 2019 at 1:40 p.m. Deputy T. Dubiel was dispatched to Coonskin Drive near the gates of the Air National Guard facility for a single-vehicle crash. A pickup truck had crashed into a concrete barrier. An ambulance was there and examined the driver prior to the arrival of law enforcement. The driver refused their offers of treatment.
When Deputy Dubiel arrived he spoke with the driver and suspected him of being intoxicated. A series of field sobriety tests confirmed the suspicion. Sonney Lee Martin (47 years old of Sissonville, WV) was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. While being booked Mr. Martin provided a sample of his breath to determine the alcohol content of his blood, which read .127%.
Mr. Martin then requested he be taken to an area hospital for examination. Afterwards he was taken to Kanawha County Magistrate Court for arraignment, and released on bond.
As is always the case in criminal matters, the charge against Mr. Martin is merely an accusation. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
