This morning around 3:40 a.m. Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a 911 call on Sawyer Drive in Pinch, WV. Christopher Patrick Young (51 years old of Pinch) was suicidal and his wife called 911.
As the first Deputy arrived Mr. Young pointed a shotgun at the cruiser and made threats. The Deputy backed away to create distance before exiting the cruiser, and called for backup.
When additional Deputies arrived Mr. Young fired shots at them from handguns and shotguns. Deputies setup a perimeter and awaited our SWAT Team to arrive.
SWAT Team members approached the residence on an armored vehicle to protect them. They found Mr. Young in his driveway and arrested him without injury to deputies, Mr. Young, or his wife.
Mr. Young was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and possible treatment. He is facing six counts of wanton endangerment from this incident. Warrants will be served upon his release from the hospital which is expected soon.
Detectives have been on scene since his detention collecting evidence. When they conclude their examination more information may be released. Deputies did not fire their weapons during this incident, even though deadly force would have been justified given the circumstances.
As is always the case in criminal matters the charges against Mr. Young are merry accusations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
