Another several scams are going around…

The first one involves a letter allegedly from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office’s Tax Division.  Always independently verify the numbers you’re dialing are correct before providing any information to someone you don’t know.

Another scam involves receiving a text message allegedly from your service provider instructing you to call a number provided.  When victims dial the number they’re asked to key in their PIN.

The number isn’t really for your service provider, and the PIN is then received by the scammers.  They then use the login information to get into your account online and order equipment.  They’ll then contact the victim and explain the equipment was shipped in error, and ask it to be returned or picked up by the scammers.

Be aware, be vigilant, and independently verify the information sent to you without your prompting.

A third recent scam we’ve learned of involves victims unexpectedly receiving checks.  If you receive a check and were not expecting or due one, it’s probably fraudulent.

Independently verify the information by calling banks or businesses on the checks.
