April 4, 2020: Quarantine Orders to be Obeyed

During this pandemic the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department has issued mandatory quarantine orders for people with COVID-19 and those they may have infected.  These orders have been rare historically, and are still few in number compared to our population.  But they are very serious and are to be obeyed.

When someone ordered to quarantine fails to follow the instructions they will face consequences.  Our office will work with the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to take action deemed necessary and appropriate in each situation.

People with lessened immune systems, those already ill, young children, babies, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19.  But if the number of cases drastically rise and hospitals become overwhelmed, even healthy people will die because of lack of care. 

So far we have not seen as catastrophic outcomes as some regions, but that can quickly change resulting in a multitude of deaths if those infected do not follow the orders to quarantine.
