On July 22, 2020 around 2:30 a.m. Metro 911 received a call from a 47 year old man. The caller said he was delivering newspapers at the intersection of Smith Road and Woodfield Lane near Charleston, WV, when a man in a green Jeep Wrangler drove alongside him and fired a pistol at the front of his car. The man with the gun yelled, “stop selling drugs to my son!” He then walked around to the driver’s side of the caller’s car and pointed the firearm at the caller’s face while still yelling about selling drugs to his son.
Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and located three spent 9mm shell casings. They identified a suspect and went to his nearby house where he was detained and subsequently arrested for wanton endangerment. The firearm believed to have been used was located at the suspect’s residence and secured as evidence.
The suspect is identified as John Joseph Johnson (46 years old of Charleston, WV). As is always the case in criminal matters, the charges against Mr. Johnson are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Attached is a mug shot taken during this morning’s booking procedure.
