The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office held the annual Deputy of the Year ceremony on February 17, 2022 in the Kanawha County Commission court room. A member is nominated from each road patrol shift (4 shifts), Judicial and from other specialized units. The nominees are recognized as outstanding police officers who have displayed dedication and hard work throughout the year. Each nominee receives a certificate and a gift card in recognition of their accomplishment.
The 2022 Deputy of the Year was Corporal Brian Middleton. He was presented with an engraved glass award by Sheriff Rutherford. Cpl. Middleton has served with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office for more than 15 years. He is a current detective with the Criminal Investigations Section. Cpl. Middleton serves as a Task Force Officer with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and frequently assists other federal law enforcement agencies with complex investigations.
