On February 18, 2022, Kanawha County Deputies responded to a residence on Frederick Drive in Cross Lanes to investigate a domestic disturbance. According to Deputy J.I. Cooper’s criminal complaint, he observed Jennifer Odell and Paren Odell engaged in a loud verbal argument while holding their 18 month old child. Deputy Cooper noticed a bruise on the child’s head and was told the injury was received during the domestic dispute. Furthermore, the condition of the home was deplorable with soiled diapers and dishes containing rotten food scattered about the residence. Drug paraphernalia was observed in the home and an open Suboxone package was within reach of the child, which could have led to serious injury or death. Jennifer Odell (41) and her husband, Paren Odell (42), were arrested and charged with child neglect creating risk of injury. As is always, both parties are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty. Their photographs are attached.
