On February 24, 2014, detectives with the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation arrested Jessica Lee Woods (36 of West Main Street, Saint Albans, WV) for the murder of her mother, Eva Linda Woods.
Eva Woods was reported missing on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Detectives had suspicions about the initial reports of Eva Woods’ disappearance. During the course of the investigation many interviews were conducted. A series of search warrants was executed resulting in the collection of evidence, and ultimately in the discovery of Eva Woods body in a shed on the property behind her house on West Main Street, near the City of Saint Albans, WV. In that shed a shallow grave had been partially dug. An autopsy of the body was performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who then ruled the manner of death as homicide, and confirmed the body was that of Eva Linda Woods, 59 of Saint Albans.
Jessica Woods was located at the Days Inn Hotel in Kanawha City, Charleston, WV, on the morning of February 24, 2014. She was brought to Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters for an interview. She was subsequently charged with murder and taken to Kanawha County Magistrate Court for arraignment. Magistrate Harshbarger scheduled a preliminary hearing on the matter for March 3, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Jessica Woods was then taken to South Central Regional Jail.
