On the evening of March 11, 2014 members of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals CUFFED Task Force went to an address in Chesapeake, WV in search of a fugitive from justice. The fugitive’s name was Isaiah Lamont Hunter, 28 years old of Chesapeake, WV. Mr. Hunter was wanted for a parole violation stemming from a robbery conviction in Ohio. He also had an outstanding burglary warrant from Dayton, OH.
A lead indicated he was staying with a girlfriend in Chesapeake. When the Deputies arrived they learned that Mr. Hunter had been seen walking down Route 61 in Chesapeake only a few minutes before their arrival. They also learned he was not staying with his girlfriend, but at another address in Chesapeake. The team went there and located Mr. Hunter. He was taken into custody. He was then taken to South Central Regional Jail where he will be held until a decision is made regarding his extradition.
The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office regularly partners with the United States Marshals Service to apprehend fugitives in the area. The combination of local Deputies’ experience and federal resources has proven to be very effective. Currently two Kanawha County Deputies are assigned to the CUFFED Task Force, a creation of the U. S. Marshals Service. CUFFED is an acronym for Cops United Felony Fugitive Enforcement Division.
Attached is a mug shot from his arrest. As is always the case in criminal matters, the latest charge against Mr. Hunter is merely an accusation. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
