On August 21, 2015 just before 11:00 a.m. Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 12200 block of Coal River Road near Saint Albans, WV, for a 911 call. Metro 911 was alerted to a gun being fired into a house and car. No people were struck by the gunfire.
Corporal J. S. Shackelford responded to the scene and met with those inside the house. He was told Dakota Zachary Williams (20 years old of Saint Albans, WV) was the shooter. He drove past the house several times in a gray Nissan X-Terra firing a pistol at the house and a car. Corporal Shackelford saw bullet holes in the house and a Chevrolet Trailblazer parked nearby. Mr. Williams fired more shots at another car while driving away on one of his passes. Corporal Shackelford was able to speak to Mr. Williams by phone.
Corporal J. S. Cochran then located Mr. Williams and detained him without incident. He was later arrested. The 9mm handgun believed used was located and seized as evidence. Mr. Williams was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment.
He was taken to Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office headquarters where he was booked. He was then taken to Kanawha County Magistrate Court for arraignment where Magistrate Halloran set a $100,000.00 cash only bond.
As is always the case in criminal matters, the charges against Mr. Williams are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Attached is a mug shot taken during his arrest.
